Joseph Portello is a Financial Advisor and Co-Founder of The Firm Financial Group, LLC, where he advises affluent families, closely held business owners, executives, and institutional leaders on advanced wealth strategy and long-term legacy planning.
Born and raised on Long Island, New York, Joseph’s foundation was shaped by discipline, resilience, and loyalty. At 16, his family relocated to Las Vegas — a pivotal experience that strengthened his independence and work ethic. While attending community college, he began working at Blondies Sports Bar, rising from entry-level responsibilities to Kitchen Manager at 18 and soon after to General Manager of one of their locations. Leading teams and overseeing full operational responsibility at a young age instilled in him a results-driven mindset grounded in ownership and accountability.
At 24, Joseph entered the financial services industry, obtaining his insurance license and committing fully to a career built on long-term relationships and measurable impact. After returning to New York in 2016, he joined New York Life in 2017 — a firm he considers his professional home — where he established a reputation for conviction, strategic thinking, and disciplined execution.
Today, Joseph works with high-net-worth individuals and large businesses requiring sophisticated, integrated planning. His advisory process incorporates investment management, risk mitigation, tax-aware strategies, executive compensation planning, and generational wealth structuring. He is known for delivering clarity in complex situations and aligning financial strategy with what matters most — family, control, and legacy.
Joseph also works closely with law enforcement agencies throughout the Tri-State area, a community he deeply respects. Supporting those who serve and protect their communities is a responsibility he values and a relationship he is proud to maintain.
A proud Italian-American and devoted father to his two daughters, Lucia and Siena, Joseph believes wealth carries responsibility — not only to grow and protect it, but to steward it thoughtfully across generations.
Outside of his practice, Joseph maintains the same discipline he brings to his clients’ portfolios. He trains regularly in the gym, enjoys boxing and time in the sauna, appreciates a good cigar, and is a loyal fan of the Giants, Mets, and Nets.
